Frequently Asked Questions
Is sharing secure?
Shared data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and the page the recipient opens is read-only: they can see your pet's records, never change them. The link carries a long random identifier rather than your pet's name or id, so it cannot be guessed from another one.
Can I revoke access?
Yes, in two ways. Every link carries an expiry you set when you create it, so it closes on its own. You can also replace or revoke it at any moment, which switches the old one off immediately, so anyone still holding it sees nothing. Per-recipient revocation, where one person loses access while others keep it, is not built yet.
Can one link cover more than one pet?
Yes. A household link covers the pets you pick, and whoever opens it gets a switcher to move between them — one URL and one QR code for the boarding facility taking all three. Each pet's page is still read-only.
Can I see whether anyone opened a link?
Yes. Each link has its own access log: the time of every visit, which records were served, and the browser and rough location it came from. It never records the visitor's address itself — they have no account with us and agreed to nothing — so the log identifies repeat visits by a one-way tag rather than by who they are.
What if I lose my phone?
Your records live in your account, not on the phone, so signing in from another device gets you everything back. From there you can replace any pet's share link, which switches off the copy that was on the lost phone.
Do recipients need a Petto account?
No! Recipients can view shared information through a web link - no account required. They'll see a read-only view of whatever you've shared. If they want to save the information or get notifications, they can create a free account.
